Since this newsletter began in early 2020, I’ve been posting every week. Every week! In the past six years, I’ve reviewed books and films, penned thinkies about trendy TV shows, revealed my sex life, mortified my body, tried my hand at short stories, hosted an advice column, became a psychoanalysis groupie, gotten political, taken risks, answered the Proust questionnaire, solved Grindr, and written several lengthy series on topics like the art of the interview, vetting S/M play partners, Method acting, sex scenes, fantasy, slurs, “validity,” intelligence, and more.

Every week, for hundreds of weeks! I’m not the best writer in the world—I may not even be the best writer in the empty room I’m sitting in—but no one can say I haven’t been consistent.

Perhaps you’ve noticed that DAVID has been a little less consistent since the New Year. As much as I love this newsletter, I recently realized that something had to change if I was going to keep writing it. Going forward, DAVID will be coming to you on a biweekly basis (unless I’m inspired to squeeze in extra coverage for a new movie about polyamory or an exciting book about wildfires, which does happen on occasion). I’m taking my time back, divas. I need it to write other things, like my next book and work for other publications. I also need it for private and restorative creativity, like journaling, making stupid postcards for the people I care about, designing scenes with my friends and lovers, and maybe even trying my hand at knitting1.

So, DAVID lovers, now you’re up to speed. What you’re losing in frequency you’re gaining in quality, or so I hope; I’m allowing myself to trust that more time to rest and daydream will lead to a richer, more thoughtful newsletter, with more reviews and dishier member content. Whatever comes of this change, I’m eternally grateful for your subscriptions, free or paid, casual or committed, friendly or malevolent (to my hate-readers, thank you for your service🫡).

And now, for that fabled member content. Subscribe to find out what I’ve got cooking in the worlds of edgeplay, codependency, publishing, and Brooklyn nightlife. (Want access for free? Screenshot your donation of any amount to the Sameer Project and I’ll send you a free month of subscriber-only DAVID content.)
