Coming back belatedly to say I’m very glad you wrote about this—read it on your recommendation and very glad I did! Have you read George Stewart’s Fire? From 1948, recently republished by NYRB, certainly dated in ways but it felt like a good complement and I think I enjoyed it (or found it more moving and tragic?) much more having just read When It All Burns.
